Round, Round Getaround

Raelyn’s walking people! She’s been taking a few steps (like, two) for the past couple of weeks, but this week we think she’s finally realized that she can actually walk to get places. She is now determined to walk from Point A to Point B instead of giving up after the first two steps in favor of crawling (because it’s faster). If she’s walking to get to a person then she usually still only takes a few steps and then lets herself fall forward because she knows we’ll catch her. But tonight especially she was standing in her room and holding onto a toy and babbling to herself and she decided to walk over to the changing table. She took like 8 or 9 steps (tiny ones of course - but real steps nonetheless).

She’s also really good with her balance. She can bend over at the waist from a standing position and pick up a toy without steadying herself on the floor with her hands. It’s pretty amazing to watch someone’s coordination and physical abilities improve right before your very eyes.

And speaking of physicality, Seth and I have been having a blast lately with baby Rae since she’s become so much FUN. She’s getting to be more like a kid and less like a baby - which means we can wrestle with her and toss her around and she just laughs and giggles. One of her favorite things to do is play in a huge pile of blankets/pillows/laundry. She loves to flop herself down. She’ll sit there and you can see her thinking about it and planning… wait for it, wait for it… then she just throws herself backwards and lands in the pile of fluff. She giggles and smiles and then rolls over, sits up and does it again. Adorable. …but my mom warns me that I’m teaching her how to properly throw a tantrum. Being a first time mom I can say “So what!” - it’s cute and fun to watch - and it makes her happy for the moment. :) (I know, I know, I’m going to eat my words later… sorry mom.)
